A love letter to moms
You’re in the right place.
I live in the thick of motherhood. It is relentless, exhausting, messy, and unending. It is beyond full time. And it is incredibly rewarding. I know how the trials and travails of motherhood can turn life upside down then rightside up again, sometimes within minutes, because I live it.
Motherhood is an epic experience with no end. And yet we are whole women. “Mom” is something we added to the already full mix and is but one role of many that we play.
Now, as moms, we often tend to others at the expense of depleting our own resources. Society tells us (and sometimes we tell ourselves) we can be all things – ever-present mothers, successful career women, skillful home cooks (make it colorful! healthy! organic! local!), house cleaners, organizers, yoga practitioners (relax, it’s good for you!), peacekeepers… the list goes on. (oh, and don’t forget to post the day’s adventures on Instagram!)
Then we measure our success by the unattainable standards of doing it all to perfection – an impossible task that simply keeps us striving.
So, here’s an idea worth considering… We, more than anyone, can put ourselves in our own circle of care. Rather than seeking fleeting – and unreliable – external sources of validation of our own goodness, we can tap our inner resources to nourish ourselves as we do our families.
There are as many ways to mother as there are women doing it. Whether your style is conventional or unapologetically unique, Oh So Simple’s message is the same:
Take good care – of your self, your space, and your relationships – in the way that best serves you, thereby serving your family.
Ultimately, our role at Oh So Simple is to support you in doing just that – caring for your self so you can simplify and better enjoy life, in a space that works with the people you care about.
Wishing you tremendous success in creating space for life!
